Last year our friends at Kinesis asked if they could give me an RTD Kinesis frame, naturally I was thrilled and very touched to accept. The RTD design is their way of honouring Mike and the inspiration he gave them. Original drawings from Mike showed bold black graphics against a simple white background, reflecting the stripped back nature of bike packing races, while the four bands at the rear of the top tube signify the four control points of the Transcontinental Race. This frame is very much inspired by the TCR riders, pushing their limits every day, the race itself and of course by Mike himself.

Together with our other Transcontinental Race partners, fizik, PEdALED and APIDURA and the expert support of Richard from The Bike Shed Wales we decided to build a bike and document our progress. Here are the results!

I feel honoured and proud to own and ride a bike inspired by Mike’s many great qualities, a bike that reminds me each time I ride what a wonderful legacy he has left behind, and what an inspiring group of individuals the TCR community is and how proud I am to be a part of it.
