Hosted by Visit Flanders / Geraardsbergen
Friday 29th July 2016, 10pm CET
We once again thank the people and city of Geraardsbergen in Flanders, Belgium for hosting the start of the Transcontinental with a wonderfully warm welcome and an atmospheric send-off.
Like Number 3, the 4th Edition began after dark on the famous cobblestones of De Muur van Geraardsbergen (The wall of Gramont).
Riders assembled in the city's marketplace and began with a parade circuit led by police and the Volvo control car. Spectators meanwhile lit their torches and made their way up the Muur, lighting the way for riders as they returned to start the racing on the famous cobbles and climb the Kapelmuur before heading off into the night towards the first checkpoint in Clermont-Ferrand, France.
